Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in Nairobi

Restore Your Core & Confidence

Reclaim the flat, firm silhouette that diet and
exercise alone cannot achieve.

For many of us, the midsection is the most stubborn area of the body. Significant weight loss, pregnancy, and the natural aging process can leave you with loose, hanging skin and weakened abdominal muscles. No amount of crunches or cardio can fix loose skin or repair separated muscles.

At Avané Plastic Surgery, we perform Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) to address the structural issues of the abdomen. We do not just remove the "pooch." We act as architects of your core. By surgically tightening the abdominal wall and removing excess tissue, we create a profile that is smoother, flatter, and physically stronger.

How Does
a Tummy Tuck Work?

A Tummy Tuck is a three-part procedure designed to address skin, fat, and muscle simultaneously.

1. Skin Excision (The Smoothing)

The surgeon removes the loose, apron-like skin that hangs below the belly button. This eliminates stretch marks in that specific area and creates a taut surface.

2. Muscle Repair (The Internal Corset)

This is the most critical step. We repair Diastasis Recti, a condition where the vertical abdominal muscles separate during pregnancy or weight gain. The surgeon stitches these muscles back together, tightening the abdominal wall like an internal corset. This narrows the waistline and flattens the bulge.

3. Umbilicoplasty (Belly Button Reshaping)

In a full tummy tuck, the navel is preserved but repositioned to fit your new, tighter skin. We sculpt a new, natural-looking opening so it does not look "surgically created."

Which Type of Tummy Tuck Do You Need?

Not every patient requires a full procedure. We tailor the technique to your anatomy.

Feature Mini Tummy Tuck Full Abdominoplasty Extended / Body Lift
Target Area Below the belly button only. Upper and lower abdomen. Abdomen plus flanks and lower back.
Muscle Repair Minimal. Tightens only the lower pouch. Full repair from ribcage to pubic bone. Full repair plus lateral tension.
Incision Short (similar to C-Section scar). Hip-to-hip (hidden in bikini line). Extends around the hips to the back.
Belly Button No incision around the navel. Navel is repositioned. Navel is repositioned.
Best For Mild lower belly "pooch." Post-pregnancy muscle separation and loose skin. Massive weight loss patients with circumferential skin laxity.

Is a Tummy Tuck
Right for Me?

Take this quick assessment to see if surgical intervention is the right step for your body goals.

1. The "Pinch" Test

Action: Pinch the tissue on your stomach. Is it mostly thick fat, or is it thin, loose skin that wrinkles?

Analysis: If it is thick fat, you might just need Liposuction. If it is loose, hanging skin, you need a Tummy Tuck.

2. The "Bulge" Test

Action: Lie on your back and lift your legs slightly. Does a ridge or dome pop up in the center of your stomach?

Analysis: This is likely Diastasis Recti (muscle separation). Only a Tummy Tuck can repair this.

3. Future Plans

Question: Are you planning to have more children?

Analysis: If yes, we recommend waiting. Future pregnancies will re-stretch the muscles we just repaired, undoing the results.

Comprehensive
Recovery Guide

Recovery from a Tummy Tuck is significant because we are repairing the muscles you use for every movement (sitting, standing, laughing). We will guide you through every step.

Part 1: The "Hunch" Phase (Days 1 to 7)

  • Posture: You will not be able to stand up straight. You must walk with a slight hunch (bent at the waist) to protect the muscle repair and the incision line.
  • Sleeping: You must sleep on your back with pillows under your knees and head (a "beach chair" position). This relieves tension on the stomach.
  • Drains: You may have small surgical drains to prevent fluid buildup. These are painless and typically removed after 3 to 7 days at the clinic.

Part 2: The Stabilization Phase (Weeks 2 to 4)

  • Compression: You will wear a medical compression garment (faja) 24 hours a day. This controls swelling and supports your new core.
  • Movement: You can now stand straight. Walking is encouraged to keep blood flowing, but you cannot lift anything heavier than a jug of milk.
  • Work: Most patients with desk jobs return to work after 2 weeks.

Part 3: The Active Phase (Weeks 6 to 8)

  • Exercise: You are generally cleared for light cardio. Core exercises (like crunches or planks) are restricted until month 3 to ensure the muscle stitching is fully healed.
  • Swelling: About 80% of the swelling is gone, revealing your new flat contour.

Why Choose a Tummy Tuck?
The Benefits

  • Functional Core Strength: Repairing the abdominal muscles often alleviates chronic back pain and improves posture, as your core can finally support your spine again.
  • Clothing Fit: High-waisted jeans, swimwear, and fitted dresses will fit smoothly without the need for shapewear.
  • Skin Relief: For weight loss patients, removing the "apron" of skin eliminates rashes, chafing, and hygiene issues in the skin folds.
  • Stretch Mark Removal: Any stretch marks located on the skin that is removed (typically below the navel) will be gone forever.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Yes, a tummy tuck requires a horizontal incision. However, our surgeons are experts in incision placement. We position the scar extremely low, just above the pubic bone. This allows it to be completely hidden by underwear or bikini bottoms. Over 12 to 18 months, the scar fades significantly.

No. A tummy tuck is a contouring procedure. It is best for patients who are already near their stable goal weight but cannot get rid of the loose skin or muscle bulge. We recommend being within 10 kgs of your ideal weight before surgery.

Yes. This is called Lipoabdominoplasty. We frequently use liposuction to contour the waist and flanks (love handles) while performing the tuck. This creates a more "snatched" hourglass figure.

It is safe to get pregnant after a tummy tuck; the skin will stretch. However, the muscle repair we performed may separate again, and you may end up with loose skin once more. This is why we advise waiting until your family is complete.

Because we tighten the muscles, a tummy tuck is more uncomfortable than simple liposuction. The first 3 days are the hardest. We provide a specialized pain management plan, including a long-acting local anesthetic injection during surgery (TAP block) to keep you comfortable.
